Triang Spares - Bulbs for Tri-ang colour light signals. I'm much more of a Hornby Dublo supplier, but am aware that all of the above bulbs are identical to the original Triang bulbs, part numbers S6284 (green) and S6285 (red). They will fit the R573 double track gantry, and also its single post equivalent the RT405 / R405. They do not fit the later Hornby Railways version, which uses screw-in bulbs instead. I understand that they will also fit the Marklin and Fleischmann systems.

A cautionary tale - it's essential to clean out the groove before fitting the tyres: "John, I did as you suggested and found that what I thought was smooth metal was in fact the remains of a very badly worn previous set of tyres. Problem solved ! The loco is now working permanently nose-to-nose with another one, and last night at our HRCA meeting they pulled 42 wagons plus a brake van, so there are obviously no adhesion issues now !

However, evidently they don't suit Farish or Kato models because the depth of tyre is deeper than the wheel flange - the inside diameter is spot on for Farish class 47, 50, 55 etc, but the outside diameter is a little too large.

I got rather fed up with cannibalising my poorer track to find fishplates to fit the coarse rail profile of my 3 rail track, so I've found some that fit. They do fit tightly though, so you'll need to carefully tap them into place, and that's a good thing because it means there will be excellent electrical conductivity. The photographs show my first attempt. You can see the before and after photos, and the fishplate before and after it's been fitted. Switch grouping rods. Long screws for ganging Hornby Dublo switches together. Those supplied will be suitable for up to three switches - the photo shows a longer length than I can currently obtain. They have the same thread as the original screws and small nuts which are used on the switches, and also the hexagonal 3 rail pickup nuts. These are brand new reproduction screws. £5.30 for two screws. Please note that the switches and nuts in the photograph are for illustration only: just the screws will be supplied. Also they're slightly over-length, you'd need to shorten them to fit. (Suitable nuts can be supplied on request, although I don't usually have the original small nuts that come with the switches).

J41 - Gear wheels for Hornby Dublo locos - several different types. I have managed to get hold of a decent supply of mixed gears. Some appear new, some have been used but are in very good condition. Priced each, enquire if you need more. Also if you want clarification about them - I was tearing my hair out by the time I'd got these sorted out. Please note that grub screws are not included.

A. Large diameter (18.5mm), fine gearing, would take two thin grub screws. West Country type. £5.60.

B1. Largish diameter (15.95mm), coarse gearing, would take two coarse grub screws. The (coarse) type found in N2s etc. £5.20.

C. TYPE C HAVE NOW ALL GONE.

Also, the "Eagle" comic had many really interesting big drawings of all sorts of railway operations in the 1950's, just the right vintage for Hornby Dublo. I have taken lots of photos of these, and, since they don't appear to be anywhere else on the internet, have published them as well. They show how the locomotives, equipment and operations worked in a straightforward way, usually using cutaway drawings. If you haven't seen them before, I

hope they give you as much fun as they did me.
